Spotlight on Construction

One thing is certain, the data center industry never stops moving, and neither do we! Looking back, we’ve made some incredible progress building our portfolio of facilities over the last 6 months… Here’s just a snapshot.

Frankfurt Two
Following a ground-breaking ceremony in Sossenheim, Frankfurt, in April 2017, we’re tracking two months ahead of schedule, ready to hand over to our first customer next summer.

Having completed below ground works, our decision to select the method of part pre-cast and in-situ concrete has really paid off, with slab to slab turnaround of technical areas, office and IT space completed in just three weeks. At the time of print we’re focused on finishing the second floor walls, as shown in the pictures below.

Meanwhile in London…
We opened the doors to our brand new state-of-the-art facility, London One in Slough, back in May 2017, and handed over an initial 1MW of power to our high-profile anchor tenant on the ground floor. The 33kV Active/Active 15MVA supply to the first floor came live in October, and we are well on track to hand over a further two data halls to our customer in the first quarter of 2018.

London Two
We announced London Two, at Stockley Park in March 2017, and started work almost immediately.

Since this was an acquired site and the first floor consisted of a large, empty shell, over a live operational data center, all works carried out had to be done in a manner which would not disrupt the ongoing operations of the facility. The first floor is now completely independent of the ground floor facility and this includes the dual MV power supplies, back up generation and cooling. ‘Power on’ was achieved in November and we are on schedule to hand the facility over to our customer in January 2018.

Review, and refresh
As we look back over the year and review all efforts, we are delighted with the progress that has been made. Once again the schedule has been focused and it was exciting to note the milestones as they came and went. The team works well together and it’s particularly great to see the power of the group as deadlines near – everyone just finds that extra few per cent to keep things rolling.

As we move into the final push of 2017 we are filled with pride, and excitement for what 2018 will bring.
